The centralised database of Bihar electoral roll will start adding the names of youths who will attain the age of 18 on 1st January 2015. The registration of new voters will continue till 1st December 2015. This exercise is being done to prepare the new list of voters who would vote in upcoming Legislative Elections. The final electoral roll would be published on January 15 2015.
The centralised database will eliminate duplication of names and help in correction of spelling, gender or age related mistakes. Its quite astounding that there are over 30 lakh voter IDs which are having mistakes. Although, the unofficial figures may be very high. Right now the state has 3.39 crore males and 2.95 crore females. There are close to 2000 third gender voters in the state.
Bihar will get a polling station for 1600 voters and this rule has increased the number of polling stations from 59807 to 62779.
New voters can apply online through the official website of Bihar State Election Commission. Voters of Bihar can also choose the appropriate option for correction in the mistakes of their name/ gender/ age in the electoral list.
