Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was holding a one-day roadshow at a five-star hotel in Guwahati to attract bidders for the 67 oilfields across the country . Farmers , on the other hand at the same time were protesting under RTI activist Akhil Gogoi led Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS). They were demonstrating against this auction and were demanding exclusion of the 12 blocks in Assam and withdrawal of FDI in oil sector.
These protesters reached the hotel and started shouting slogans against ministers and this auction . Before arresting police asked them to vacate the hotel premises but they refused , at last police arrested nearly 100 protesters and took them to nearby police station.
Ministry and local administration said that these matters can be solved by simple talk but they opt for agitation . There is some section which want to highlight simple matters and bring bad name for the Central Government , without knowing the real matter behind the whole process.
Minister Mr Pradhan earlier gave the statement that “All these 67 oilfields were discovered during the last 8-40 years and are with Oil India and ONGC. As these are small oilfields, these were not so financially viable. Now we are targeting to garner Rs 30,000 crore from the auctioning of these 67 blocks,” The auction is scheduled to take place on 15th July , 2016
