Asha Kumari was earlier ( in February , 2016) sentenced by Chamba Court to one-year jail in a land grab case dating back to 1998, however, she was granted bail in the evening. But now she is convicted by the court for the same case.
Asha Kumari, a former state education minister, was accused of manipulating revenue records, fabricating documents and transferring 60 bighas of government forest land in the name of her husband, Brijender Singh. There were 13 accused in the case, six of whom including Kumari’s husband, have since died.
About 18 years ago, former Dalhousie municipal councillor Kuldeep Singh had filed a complaint against Asha Kumari and the others.
The state vigilance bureau had registered a first information report (FIR) under Sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (forgery) 218 (public servant framing incorrect records) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) besides Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act on December 15, 2001.
She had to resign as education minister after Chamba court charged her. She moved to HP High Court against Chamba court trail which gave her relief , however Supreme Court in December, 2011 confirmed the charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy and forgery and set aside the high court order giving relief transferring the case to the Kangra court from Chamba and giving relief to Kumari.
Congress party decision can be said as ” Better late then Never” . Still the big question is how such conspirator criminals are able to continue and system is not able to punish them at the right time. Justice delayed is justice denied. There are many such cases where administrator and political leaders grab the government properties. Legal fight and their enjoyment on that property simultaneously moves on, as if they are aware of system loopholes and not at all scared of its end result .
